Research associate - PostDoc

Your responsibility

You will conduct independent scientific work within the ERC project URBRAIN in the field of neuro-urbanism, using multimodal psychophysiological measurements (EEG, ECG, EDA, eye tracking) combined with scene and audio recordings in real-world and laboratory protocols. In particular, you will:

  • plan, conduct and analyze several experiments, including one large-scale real-world experiment running across the full five-year project period;
  • develop linear and non-linear analysis approaches for complex multimodal physiological data in combination with environmental data;
  • publish results in international peer-reviewed journals and present them at conferences and workshops;
  • support the coordination of the project and the supervision of doctoral researchers in the context of the project, and liaise with the EU Office.

Your profile

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master's, Diplom or equivalent) and doctorate in neuroscience, environmental neuroscience, computer science, data science, psychology or a comparable field; candidates expecting to complete their doctorate by the time of appointment may apply (proof of completion of the doctoral degree must be provided no later than the date the contract is signed)
  • Very good practical and analytical knowledge of EEG, together with familiarity with further physiological measurement methods (ECG, EDA, eye tracking)
  • Very good knowledge of statistics
  • Very good programming skills in Python, R or MATLAB
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Experience with organizing experiments with large sample sizes desirable
  • Experience with machine-learning or multivariate approaches for multimodal data desirable
  • Experience in the field of neuro-urbanism is a plus
  • Experience with mobile or real-world psychophysiological measurement desirable
  • Experience with project management desirable

This five-year position gives you the scope to develop your own research line: to advance new methods in neuro-urbanism and apply them both in real-world environments and in state-of-the-art laboratory settings, to co-supervise doctoral researchers, and to build an independent research profile. You will work in an international team with full access to the Berlin Mobile Brain/Body Imaging Lab (BeMoBIL; https://blogs.tu-berlin.de/bpn_bemobil/), internationally leading in mobile imaging of human brain activity.
