Student assistant (40 - 60 hours per month)

Your responsibility

We are seeking support for the research activities of the “Intelligent Systems” group in the following areas:

  • Assistance with conducting robotics experiments as well as testing and integrating the laboratory’s code infrastructure (20%)
  • Assistance with the reimplementation of existing robotics and robot perception algorithms (20%)
  • Assistance with the development, integration, and testing of perception algorithms for robotics; the development of neural systems for implicit scene/object representations; the construction of such representations from raw data; and their use for planning and real-time robot control (20%)
  • Assistance with the development of algorithms for meta-optimization and the generation of randomized problem instances (≈ evolutionary methods) for testing and optimizing the planning and control capabilities of robots in large-scale, simulated, automatically generated scenarios
  • Assistance with hardware and control development for a mobile robotic platform, including system integration of the mobile base and a manipulator (20%)

Your profile

Required qualifications:

  • Very good mathematical foundations in linear algebra and numerical algorithms
  • Very good programming skills in C++ or Python
  • Very good knowledge of Linux
  • Very command of English, both written and spoken

Preferred qualifications:

  • Reliability, ability to work independently, and strong teamwork skills
  • Experience in one of the following areas: robot programming and basic knowledge of robotics (kinematics, dynamics, planning, or probabilistic methods); computer vision and neural representations; optimization algorithms and simulation; or mechatronics
