About us
In order to achieve a sustainable, energy- and atom-efficient circular economy (closed carbon cycle), new raw materials, new catalysts, and new processes need to be developed. At BasCat - UniCat BASF JointLab possibilities are investigated for using green hydrogen from waste streams (e.g., plastic waste, biomass, carbon dioxide from exhaust gases) to produce urgently needed platform chemicals (e.g., ethanol) in sustainable value chains. The interdisciplinary project team at Technische Universitaet Berlin focuses on heterogeneous catalysis.
Funded by the BMFTR with €30 million over 5 years, the project ASCEND aims to accelerate the development of novel catalysts in collaboration with the partners HZB, FHI, Dunia, Siemens, BASF, and TU Berlin (BasCat). The research at BasCat focuses on digital catalysis and heterogeneous catalysts for the conversion of carbon dioxide into industrially relevant products, such as higher alcohols.
Your responsibility
- Characterization of new materials (heterogeneous catalysts)
- Operation of a high-pressure catalytic laboratory reactor
- Integration of (in-situ) analytics and catalytic time series into digital workflows
- Development of AI-based tools for the automated generation of kinetic models
- Development of fingerprinting methods and proxies for accelerated catalyst development
Your profile
Strong interest in computational methods in heterogeneous catalysis research; Successfully completed university degree (diploma, master's degree or equivalent) in chemistry or chemical engineering.
- Experience in use of catalytic fixed-bed reactors
- Knowledge in characterization of heterogeneous catalysts
- Good knowledge of German and/or English; willingness to learn the language skills required in each case
- Experience with parallel fixed-bed reactors at high pressures (is desirable)
- Experience in the field of temperature-programmed methods (e.g., TPR, TPO, TPD) (is desirable)
- Experience in Digital Catalysis Research (e.g., digitalization, python, data bases) (is desirable)
