Research Assistant - 0.75 working-time

Your responsibility

Parent bodies of hydrous meteorites could have been the first habitable objects of the solar system. Their chronological and mineralogical properties allow conclusions to be drawn about these parent bodies. The successful candidate will develop chemical-mineralogical numerical models using the software The Geochemist's Workbench and implement a physical numerical model for the thermal evolution of asteroids in order to determine various properties of the parent bodies. The successful candidate will present the results at international conferences and has the opportunity to write a doctoral dissertation based on that work.

Your profile

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Geoscience, Planetology, Mathematics, Physics or comparable
  • Proficiency in common programming languages (C++, Python, MATLAB)
  • Experience in scientific programming (e.g. solving non-stationary partial differential equations), proficiency in finite difference, finite element, and finite volume methods
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team is desirable
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.
  • Knowledge of mineralogy, meteorite research, the internal structure and evolution of planetary bodies is desirable
  • Experience in presenting at conferences is desirable
