Research Associate (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification, employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

At the Faculty of Psychology, the Neuroimaging Center offers a position as
Research Associate (m/f/x) starting as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually habilitation thesis).

The Neuroimaging Center (NIC) at TUD is a technology platform jointly operated by the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus. It provides research groups at the university with access to modern neuroscientific methods, including:

  • 3 Tesla Siemens Prisma magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner with extensive equipment, including MRI-compatible 64-channel electroencephalography (EEG), eye tracker, peripheral physiological measurement devices, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and various systems for audio and video presentation.
  • Multimodal neurostimulation, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (tFUS), and high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS).
  • Behavioral measurements and physiological recordings, including facilities for computer-based behavioral experiments, eye tracking, and electromyography (EMG).
  • Wet laboratory facilities, e.g., for blood sample collection.

Tasks

  • Conducting scientific research and development work in MRI projects
  • Further development and practical implementation of innovative measurement and data analysis methods
  • Providing scientific and methodological support and consultation in the implementation of neuroscientific studies and the scientific processing and analysis of research data, as well as providing technical and methodological support to users and research groups at the NIC in resolving methodological and technical issues
  • Developing and implementing suitable procedures for scientific data management in collaboration with the Center for Information Services and High-Performance Computing (ZIH)
  • Participating in academic teaching and academic self-governance, e.g., by supporting the NIC governing body in scientific and organizational tasks
  • There is also the opportunity to initiate and conduct independent research projects in collaboration with research groups at the NIC. Such initiatives are welcome and explicitly supported.

Requirements

  • university degree and completed PhD in psychology, neuroscience, physics, or a related field, as well as knowledge of neuroscientific methods and analysis
  • Excellent computer and programming skills in relevant programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB), experience with MRI data processing, and broad expertise in cognitive neuroscience methods are particularly important. These skills should be demonstrated through research experience and relevant publications.
  • strong communication skills and experience working in teams, as well as experience in academic supervision (e.g., supervising theses)
  • Ability, in collaboration with the NIC core team, to set up and maintain technical infrastructure, including devices for stimulus presentation and response recording in MRI environments, or combinations of MRI and other neuroscientific measurements with peripheral physiological recordings.
  • Proficiency in English, German language skills are not mandatory. However, the successful applicant is expected to acquire sufficient German language skills within the first year after taking up the position to ensure smooth communication with all user groups and participants.
