Student assistant (40 hours per month)

Your responsibility

You would be assisting the project team at the Environmental Assessments Research Group and working on the project "Biochar from Agricultural Residues in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE): Actor Constellations, Structural Framework Conditions, and Innovation Dynamics for Sustainable Transformation Processes" – funded by the German Federal Environment Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt). The aim is to identify and assess the potentials and framework conditions for the environmentally beneficial production and use of biochar in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and to analyse the influence of targeted research and development projects.

Your tasks in the project include:

  • support the literature research (40%)
  • assisting in the editorial revision of academic texts (25%)
  • support in the substantive preparation of academic events (15%)
  • substantive support in preparing, conducting, and analysing expert interviews (10%)
  • support in the documentation of research findings (10%)

Your profile

Expected qualifications (mandatory criteria):

  • Sound knowledge in the fields of ecology and environmental planning, environmental sciences, or geography
  • Experience in academic literature research and confident use of scholarly databases
  • Proficiency in the use of common MS Office applications
  • Basic knowledge in the areas of biochar, circular economy, sustainable resource use, soil management, negative emission technologies, and transformation or innovation research
  • Very good command of English, both written and spoken

Desirable qualifications (optional criteria):

  • Initial experience in the fields of sustainability, transformation processes, and environmental issues
  • Good regional knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe
  • Experience with literature management software
  • Experience with qualitative research methods
  • Ability to work independently, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Good written and spoken German skills
